Let's get Ruby and Sunny out of harm's way, and reunited with their sailors.
While on deployment overseas, U.S. Navy Chief Petty Officer J., and his Wife Coreen - a Navy Veteran, rescued two innocent dogs from being cruelly abused and tormented in the Middle East. After being subjected to the horror of being deliberately run over with a car, set on fire, and waiting to be used as bait in a dog fighting ring, without the compassionate action taken by CPO J, and Coreen, neither dog would be alive today.
With redeployment looming, in a frantic bid to make sure the dogs - Ruby and Sunny - are not left behind in the place that almost claimed their lives, they reached out to Paws of War for help to get them to safety. An extensive mission to save the dogs is underway, and if you can, we need your help.
RUBY'S STORY
From behind a rusty metal fence, CPO J and Coreen saw pleading eyes looking back at them; a terrified little puppy sensed danger all around her. She was going to be used in an underground fighting operation as a bait dog - to teach huge fighting dogs how to kill.
She didn't stand a chance.
Stationed in an area with almost no animal resources, a search for emergency pet medical supplies led the sailors to this place. As they looked back at the tiny nose pressed against the jagged fence, they knew the cruel fate that lay in store for the young dog and the horrible death she would suffer. The sailors said it was as though she spoke to them with her eyes...
"Please help me"
They negotiated the release of the pup for just $10 - that's all her life was worth to the dog fighters, and they scooped up the shaking puppy and quickly carried her to safety.
SAVING SUNNY
It is unthinkable that anyone would want to hurt such a gentle dog, but Sunny has endured so much at the hands of callous people. When CPO J, and Coreen saw him lying injured and helpless in the road they knew they had to try and save him.
Sunny had been deliberately run over with a car and left for dead. The impact left him in excruciating pain with serious injuries - including a fractured skull.
As if he hadn't suffered enough, a group of youths tried to burn him to death just for their entertainment - leaving scars on his body.
Despite all he had been through, Sunny's trusting eyes never lost the hope of kindness, and when the sailors stepped up to help him, it was like he knew he was finally safe. They rushed to find medical supplies and under the dedicated care of CPO J., and Coreen, slowly, Sunny began to heal.
Chief Petty Officer J, and Coreen saved two lives, and for the first time in their lives, Ruby and Sunny are loved. But now they are at risk once again.
The sailors knew they did the right thing for Ruby and Sunny but the hard reality is they are thousands of miles away from home, and without any military options for bringing the dogs to safety, they are on their own.
Our team is working around the clock to get Ruby and Sunny out of the Middle East so they can be reunited with CPO J. and Coreen. The sailors can't face leaving the dogs behind knowing how dangerous it is for them if they are left to fend for themselves; we are doing everything we can to make sure that doesn't happen because they need our help.
They cannot do it alone.
We are only able to be there for Ruby and Sunny thanks to the support of caring people who believe in our work. Please help, if you can - with even just a few dollars towards the costs of this rescue mission. You will be directly playing a part in giving Ruby and Sunny a future.
Thank you for being with us as we work to give back to our American heroes, and the animals they love.
