When U.S. Army Specialist Hicks was out on patrol while deployed overseas, they spotted a small puppy on the side of the road, all alone. Everyone on patrol knew how much specialist Hicks loved dogs, and he had told them all he wanted to save all the stray dogs they would see. When they stopped the truck to look at the little pup, he immediately came over to SPC Hicks. Everyone knew it was a sign and it was meant to be.
SPC Hicks says “I’m gonna try to rescue at least this one if I can if I have the opportunity to. When I got out of that truck and he ran towards me I knew that he chose me as much as I chose him. I named him soap, because his favorite thing to do is to steal soap bottles and run away with them. We have been inseparable ever since the moment we met, he’s going on patrols with us he is a part of our family and I hope that’s forever.”
