When U.S. Army Sergeant Lazar looked into the innocent eyes of the tiny puppy - alone and frightened - he knew he had to protect her and that's what he stepped up to do. His compassion saved her life.

"I felt in my heart the right thing was get her to a safer location. She follows me everywhere and I can't imagine life without her." - U.S. Army Sergeant Lazar.
Sergeant Lazar is currently deployed overseas, and it was on the way back to base after a grueling 10 day convoy mission he called into a gas station where he saw the little dog. She was thin, her coat was filthy, and her tiny body crawling with fleas and bugs. He immediately went to help, and with no sign of any mother or carer around, her took the pup back to base where he gave her a bath and the food and water she desperately needed. The little pup was so exhausted and sensing she was safe, she fell soundly asleep in Sergeant Lazar's arms.
Now she has a name - Bella
Sergeant Lazar describes Bella as "The cutest dog I have ever seen in my life" - and it's true, she's adorable!
But after working to get her safe and well, Bella's future is at stake once again.
When Sergeant Lazar returns home he faces leaving Bella behind. By chance, one of his friends knew about Paws of War after we assisted with bringing their rescued animal home, and Sergeant Lazar reached out to us for help to bring his little Bella back to safety too.
Can we do it again? We're ready and willing, but to be able we need your help.
The bonds between soldiers and the animals they rescue overseas are forged in a tough environment, and they are stronger than many others, but there are no military provisions for bringing those animals back when everyone returns to America.
After witnessing the devastating impact on our Service members who have been forced to leave the animals they consider family behind, we will take every action we can to make sure that doesn't happen.
Your support will make it possible to reunite Bella Stateside with her heroic soldier.
If you're able to chip in even just a few dollars towards the mission to bring Bella to the U.S. where she can live safely with the man who saved her, we would be so grateful for your help to make another happy ending a reality.
Can we say Yes! to one of the courageous people who serve our country?
